FDA-approved vs compounded medications
FDA-approved GLP-1 medications (such as Wegovy and Zepbound) have undergone clinical trials for safety and efficacy and are manufactured under FDA-regulated quality systems. Compounded GLP-1 medications use similar active ingredients but are prepared by compounding pharmacies and have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, efficacy, or quality. The FDA has taken enforcement action against certain compounded GLP-1 providers; current status is reflected on each provider card when applicable.
